Install startup disk creator command line

I will preface that I don't know a lot about PCs. Anyone has some good advice how to get my data back? And no, I'm absolutely not happy about it.ītw. I'm really curious what the thinking behind making this process automatic is. Totally different experience: It nicely asks me and I have to actually click ok for anything to happen. Installed the gtk version and removed the kde version So it looks like usb-creator all by itself found the image it liked and and put that image on a random drive. Then suddenly my backup disk starts spinning wildly and I'm getting worried - I pull it out and now it has kubuntu 18.04 on it (or at least some of it). I start it again same thing happens - no chance for me to do anything - like choosing image, target disk. I cancel after a while and the usb-creator application disappears as well - so they're related.

Nothing else just 'installing', no indication which program spawned the window, no indication what is being installing or where. I started usb-creator-kde, after a short while a popup window appears saying 'installing' with a progress bar apparently stuck at zero. Had the usb in (also had my backup drive in). I was about to create a bootable usb stick with 18.04.
